So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

– Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

Some days are just such a drag. You know those days when you end up on your couch, sinking into it so deeply that you just become one with your furniture? Those are the days I end up eating a whole box of mac & cheese to myself followed by a pint of Ben & Jerry’s (those are rough).

Winter-time can sometimes have a greater ratio of those kinds of days. Maybe it’s the weather, or less hours of sunlight.

Sometimes it’s not necessarily the seasons of the earth but the seasons of our lives that can account for more heavy days that just drag on.

So I offer you this scripture to lean on. Hear the words of the prophet Isaiah: when you feel tired and weak, God is there to give you strength. When you start to compare yourself to others, know that even the young and spry stumble and fall; even those who seemingly have it all together also have days where they down a whole bag of potato chips.

Jesus said in the gospels, Come to me all who are weary, and I will give you rest.

Lean on God on those heavy days. Let yourself sink, not only into the couch, but into the God that redeems and sustains. Let your heaviness be your surrender.

You are not God and you do not have to be. Trust that God will be God so that you can be human, fully yourself, leaning on the strength of your Creator.

With love,
Pastor Kelsey
